Our mould level measurement solutions are designed to run at an exceptionally short cycle time of 5 ms, allowing for perfect control of the casting process – both at automatic start-up and in normal operation. Extensive self-diagnostics as well as plausibility checks of calibration and measurement ensure the highest process precision and product quality. Each steel control system measures up to four strands simultaneously. Also each measurements channel is equipped with its own dedicated processor and power supply. Thus, all four channels work independent of each other and high process reliability is guaranteed.
LEARN FROM OUR EXPERTS about how to optimize your radiometric steel level measurement to increase accuracy, profitability and safety. Our top minds will take you through finding solutions to the challenges faced when measuring the steel level.
The unique short cycle time of 5 ms provides the ideal basis for reliable control.
Detector temperature and status are continuously monitored and displayed.
Comprehensive self-diagnostics and plausibility checks of measurement and calibration ensure the highest process reliability.
By using several calibration points, non-linearities of the calibration curve are eliminated completely, and high accuracy can be achieved over the entire measuring range.
The large colour touchscreen makes operation and calibration particularly easy. The ability to select from different operating languages facilitates ease of operation. Regardless of where the system is installed.
Benefit from faster response times during start-up of casting, by the ability to set a smaller time constant in the low measuring range.
Up to four strands can be measured simultaneously. Each measurement channel is equipped with its own power supply and CPU. Therefore, the channels are independent of each other and high process reliability is guaranteed.
Continuous monitoring of the current output ensures highest reliability and signal stability. This plausibility test is patented.
Radiometric based mould level measurement is the dominating technology for measuring the steel level in continuous casting. Herein we discuss performance, statistical variation, influencing factors, source selection, and a recent development that enables the simultaneous measurement of casting powder layer thickness.
In this particular type of rod source the accuracy in the upper part of the measuring range can be increased significantly by optimizing the distribution of activity. Especially for small formats the statistical noise is minimized, without increasing the overall activity of the source.
Or if you are content with the accuracy? In this case AOS can be used to reduce the source activity while maintaining the same accuracy. Depending on the application, the use of smaller shields is possible. In many cases the more cost-efficient lead may be used instead of tungsten.
The LB 480 SpeedStar can be used where reaction times in the millisecond range are required. While standard measurements calculate a new measured value every 500 ms, the Speedstar version with a measuring time of 50 ms is 10 times faster. This allows very fast object recognition, e.g. detecting the beginning of a steel plate being moved at a relatively high speed on the roll conveyor, or measuring a density profile on pipes or plates detected directly during extrusion. The level of gas cylinders can also be measured while the cylinders are still being transported.
