Compared to traditional dioxetanes, AquaSpark® probes have unique properties:
- They can work as single agents without the need for enhancers, co-substrates or any additional reagents.
- They have a higher efficiency and sensitivity over currently existing probes: an increase in chemiluminescent intensity of up to 3000 times can be observed in some cases.
- They are especially designed to work under physiological conditions and can be used ex-vivo and in-vivo.
Several AquaSpark-based products are already available for research and diagnostic applications including substrates of alkaline phosphatase, alpha-glucosidase and beta-galactosidase to be used in chemiluminescent immunoassays (CLIA). AquaSpark-caprylate tests for Salmonella and Pseudomonas strains and peroxide probes are for the detection of any H2O2-releasing oxidase activity.
AquaSpark® probes are promising in many other applications such as chemiluminescent microscopy and chemiluminescent in vivo imaging.
