High reliability is supported by important diagnostic functions, such as permanent monitoring of the detector functionality by crosschecking the cosmic background radiation and much more. This guarantees outstanding operational safety.
Cosmic radiation control also makes it possible to keep the required source activity very low.
Berthold's LB480 SIL model is unique in the radiometric gauge market for being certified for density and low level switch measurements, in addition to high level switch and continuous level measurements.
The SENSseries LB 480 detectors are certified for use in SIL 2 applications. SIL 3 is achieved by adding an identical redundant SIL 2 detector for homogenous redundancy. The certificate covers all measurement applications, from high level or low level alarms to continuous level and density measurements. Thus the safe measurement of critical processes is guaranteed.
With this function, weld tests no longer cause sudden fluctuations in the measured value. When weld tests are detected, the measured value is frozen until the external radiation event ends. A digital output signals the detection of interfering radiation. All of our level measurement detectors are equipped with XIP.
Does your product naturally emit radiation? No problem!
The Product Radiation Compensation (PRC) independently measures gamma from the product and removes its effect upon the measurement, for a reliable accurate level measurement.
In the case of radiometric measurement, gas density variations can falsify the measured value, unless you have gas density compensation from Berthold. With the feature GPC, a second measurement determines the current gas density in the tank and has a compensating effect on the connected level measurement.
The LB 480 SpeedStar can be used where reaction times in the millisecond range are required. While standard measurements calculate a new measured value every 500 ms, the Speedstar version with a measuring time of 50 ms is 10 times faster. This allows very fast object recognition, e.g. detecting the beginning of a steel plate being moved at a relatively high speed on the roll conveyor, or measuring a density profile on pipes or plates detected directly during extrusion. The level of gas bottles can also be measured while the bottles are still being transported.
