The LB 480 SpeedStar is used when the speed of the measurement is crucial. Due to the extremely short response time of 50ms, rapid changes such as slugs are detected early, allowing operators or the control system to compensate before they reach the production processes downstream.
Especially in low radiation conditions, our highly sensitive detectors improve the signal to noise ratio, what is resulting in superior measurement performance compared to competing systems. Source replacement is costly, time consuming, and does not work towards a reduction in overall site source activity.
The use of cosmic rays as a constant reference ensures accurate and stable performance of the detector, regardless of ambient temperatures. It even compensates for the degradation of electronic components. Thus the detectors reach an unmatched repeatability,with drift below 0.5%.
The SENSseries LB 480 series offers versions that are certified for use in SIL 2 applications. SIL 3 is achieved by adding an identical redundant SIL 2 detector using the same source for homogenous redundancy. The certificate covers all measurement applications, from high level or low level alarms to continuous level and density. Thus the safe measurement of critical processes is guaranteed.
When radiometric measurements are applied, radiation safety is a big concern, which makes the supply of high sensitive detectors Berthold’s main priority. The use of high-quality scintillators is one of many reasons that our detectors can be operated with 80% lower source activity than competitors.
A reliable measurement, requiring no recalibration, is vital for the operation of the alky unit, and is our highest priority. Berthold’s detectors offer stability in the face of changes in ambient temperature. Even drastic temperature shifts, e.g. from winter to summer do not cause measurement drift. Our patented method for detector stabilization compensates for temperature changes and aging.
An online density measurement at the feeding line provides real-time information on the mud density before it enters the wellbore. The mixture is measured before it is pumped down to ensure proper fluid density. While drilling, mud is continually pumped into the well drill bore, and the density is adjusted by adding material solids depending on the drilling operations. Lighter fluid density is used while drilling, and heavier density if the drilling has to stop due to bit replacement or any other issues. The correct mud formulation ensures smooth forward propulsion. Wear-free drilling and excellent sealing of the borehole is ensured by monitoring mud density. Our solution for density measurement
The Berthold instruments used for level switch applications ensure the highest degree of safety and reliability. The system is mounted outside of the vessel and are therefore not exposed to the high pressure and high temperature conditions inside the tank. Existing tanks can be easily retrofitted by the Berthold point level systems, without any modifications or process downtime. A reliable control of this interface is very important because it prevents oil from entering the water outlet and ensures that water is not reaching the oil side.

Berthold level transmitters are used to monitor measuring ranges, from a few millimeters up to several meters. The radiometric level measurements are non-contacting and non-intrusive and operate with constantly high accuracy and repeatability through-out the whole time of operation. The slugs are measured by means of radiometric densitometers with shortest response time to guarantee an early warning and initiation of appropriate measures.
The liquids are collected in the bottom of the vessel and have to be measured by a reliable measuring system. Berthold level measurement gauges are used to measure the total liquid level in a gas scrubber.
