The Measuring Principle – Explained in Simple Terms

Our solutions for Mass Flow measurement of bulk solids are based on the radiometric principle. The belt weigher works non-contacting, with a scintillation detector installed below and a shielded source mounted above the conveying system. The rays are directed through the measurement point and attenuated as they pass through the conveyor. The extent to which the radiation is attenuated is determined by the conveyor load. By combining the measured conveyor load with a velocity signal, the Mass Flow flow rate can be measured highly accurately without any negative influence from vibrations, dust, varying particle sizes, temperature or chemical properties of the measured material.

Accurate and Stable Measurement Performance

As the measurement performance of our weighing systems is very stable over years of operation with a repeatability of ±1%, frequent recalibrations are superfluous. Due to the lack of moving parts, the Mass Flow measurement of bulk solids is not affected by wind, encrustations, changing belt tension or dirt. Besides the current flow rate, our systems also provide batch measurements and total solids Mass Flow (tonnage).
